First of all, let’s banish the number one myth related to CBD: It’s NOT actually an Essential Oil.
CBD (CannaBiDiol) is a botanical that is isolated from the plants it’s found in. It comes from hemp or marijuana plants, and then a carrier oil is added to it so it can be used in oil form. CBD does not come in oil form organically.
CBD acts on the CB receptors via an indirect route. It does NOT act on these receptors directly. Rather, it works by slowing down the enzyme that breaks down anandamide (the chemical we talked about during our discussion of the “runner’s high.”). So rather than having a direct impact on CB receptors, CBD affects the body by changing its levels of anandamide.
People have reported experiencing many benefits of CBD, including reduction in depression and anxiety, neuropathic pain, and seizures.
